In May of 2010 we wrote an article on the county’s Proposition 100 that seeked to raise the sales tax in order to pay for school expenses. We said that in a shrinking economy raising taxes only serves to further crash the economy.
Naturally most citizens did not understand this and they rushed in to approve Proposition 100.
Now we are fully a year later and the economy is crashing nationally and locally. Arizona’s economy is on life support faring as one of the worst in the country. Foreclosures are up another 7% and Maricopa County is raising property taxes and the Paradise Valley School district wants to float a bond for more school expenses. Tax revenues are shrinking and Maricopa County may not be able to afford the interest on the bonds because the tax revenues are not there.
